About Craniosacral Therapy.

CranioSacral therapy, as taught at the Upledger Institute, is an offshoot of osteopathy which is both a gentle, non-invasive & powerful, effective manipulative technique.  There are three life-giving systems of the body; heart, lungs & craniosacral system.  They all effect and are affected by one another.

The system consists mainly of the skull, spine, pelvis, the brain (where the cerebral spinal fluid is produced), the central nervous system, all of which are contained within the meninges & connective tissue (residing inside the skull & spine).

The ebb & flow of the production of this fluid creates a rhythm (just like the heart & lungs), which can be felt and influenced by the trained practitioner using manipulative techniques.  It used for a variety of conditions with only a small amount of contra-indications.

Safe to use on vulnerable babies that have experienced a traumatic birth or robust adults that need rehabilitation for acute and/or chronic issues, aiding well being for the body, mind & soul.

SomotoEmotional Therapy  (SER) is advancing the above CST facilitation, using psychotherapy to release stuck emotions that may be lodged within the cellular memory of the tissue, which may have prevented true release of the physical issue causing pain and/or discomfort. True repair/rehabilitation can then take place.

Visceral Manipulation.  Around every organ, muscle, bone, tissue etc. of the body is connective tissue called fascia.  The fascia holds & affords healthy movement of whichever structure it is containing.  Particularly post-surgery or through injury, the fascia can get stuck & limit movement.

As a metaphor, imagine putting a jacket on, with a lining where the stitching as gone wrong.  Its effects would be pulling you off centre or twisting your back causing a constant twist.  Physically, therefore, compensation occurs somewhere else throughout the body and potential referred pain.  Once again this is a gentle mobilisation of this tissue to encourage a healthy system throughout.

What is PST?

Psychosexual Somatics® Therapy (PST) is an evolutionary, body-oriented
therapeutic modality dealing with sexual and intimacy issues, developed by Mike
Lousada. Unlike many somatic sexology trainings, PST approaches sexuality through the heart, not through the genitals.  It is a unique combination of psychotherapeutic and bodywork disciplines, based on the understanding that most sexual issues present as a combination of cognitive (mind) and somatic (body) symptoms. It is only by addressing both mind and body, therefore, that full resolution can be achieved.
